10 Thrift Store Shopping Secrets Every Thrifter Should Know

101. All about location. Usually the nicer thrift stores are in the nicer areas of town, and less picked through. 

2. Use that web. A helpful website to utalize to find a thrift store in any area is thethriftshopper.com. Just type in your zip code and voilà.

3. Get outside of your comfort zone. Sometimes thrifting while on vacation can bring you amazing finds! As long as you have the space in your suit case to bring it back…; )

4. Change of seasons rule. You can usually find great stuff when the season change. People tends to clean out their homes/closets at the beginning of each new season. Fall is just about among us…get thrifting! 

5. Figure out the best days of the week to shop. Talk to the employees or search online at your fave thrift store. Find out when they usually get the most new donations. Also, there are sale days at many of my local Salvation Army’s. They have 50% off days weekly :D. 

6. Frequency is key. As you all know thrift items are one of a kind. They come and go very quickly! The more you go, the more you find awesome stuff. 

7. Sign up for email lists. Not all store have email lists, but sign up for the ones that do. You can then find out about their sales and promos. Some places may even send pix in their weekly emails. 

8. Shop online. Did you know that Goodwill has an online store? Yes. And if you’re into books for reading or cheap cool art ideas, they have a separate site for just books as well. 

9. Get a discount. Always check for coupons in your paper, online, and even some local schools will sell coupon books. Sometimes you can find as much at 25% off for Goodwill! Save even more than you already are on your thirfty finds. 

10. Don’t be too serious. Thrift shopping is supposed to be fun! Don’t worry if you get something that ends up breaking or falling apart. It happens to the best of us. Shrug it off and move on because come on it was only $1 ; ) The idea is that you are taking things that have great potential and using them to benefit yourself or to re-purpose to make them see another great era!
